Rant About the New Job

Another rant about this new job. Both my boss and his partner don’t seem to understand what it means to respect others. A client asked for a sliding door, but he sent a video of a flush door instead. To avoid confusion between a cabinet sliding door and a room door, I shared a photo of my own sliding door in the group chat. His partner replied, “Such a low-cost door, we don’t sell it.”

Another day, I asked my boss for the price of a wooden countertop for an island. He asked what type of wood. Since I didn’t think the client knew the wood types, I mentioned that my dining table is made of pinewood, 5 cm thick. He responded, without any manners, “Pinewood is too cheap for our collection. Quote in plywood.” I’m new to this business, but I doubt plywood is better than pinewood. Insulting people for their choices says a lot about a person’s character. I’m starting to wonder how long I’ll keep working for them.

This job doesn’t even have proper office hours. They expect me to follow up on client inquiries and orders as if I were their business partner. Have they ever considered that I can’t be available 24/7? Or that I’m practically working for free? 😠 They never paid for the website or the web hosting. They haven’t paid July’s salary yet. Software and cloud storage are never paid for. The salary is less than what a worker earns in China. I’m stressed out by this job. I want to work, but I don’t want any stress or insult. I just hope my own business will bloom again so I can work for myself and no one else.

Today Bruno messaged me asking for help. He needed a translator for a contract, specifically for the penalty terms. He didn’t give me much time to prepare before starting a video call with his boss, himself, and the client from China. I felt a bit silly speaking in my broken Mandarin, but I still managed to help them negotiate the penalty terms. Being able to help made my day.
